Dogmouth

The leader of a mysterious mafia of Viet Nam vets claims to be a changed man as he leads his small band hopping freights from California to Arizona while fleeing relentless railroad agents. Has he changed or is he still a renegade planning the murder of a rival? The writer (John Steppling) manages to insert ruminations on dying, courage, survival of the fittest and class warfare – the way Beckett does – and so elevates this noirish tale far above the norm.
